Save Time By Investing in a Minneapolis Landscape Gardener

We know it might seem like a job you can do yourself, but there are benefits to hiring the right Minneapolis landscape gardener. We discussed this in an article a while back about why home and property owners should think strongly about hiring a landscape gardener to take care of their landscape design needs.

It was noted that:
The average individual is perfectly talented enough to plant a few plants here and there. It becomes much more strenuous and complex when the vision entails creating whole beds with mulch or stone and walkways with pavers. Even though many home owners enjoy doing a little gardening, most do not have enough free time to create a beautiful landscape from a basic lawn.
If you want the job done right the first time, it's often best to bring in a professional. When it comes to landscape gardening, this is no different. Landscape gardeners and design contractors are trained and licensed, and know best in most cases in how to give you the best looking, most functional landscape possible.

Also:
What the investment in hiring a landscape company provides is the minimal time it will take to install all of the flower and rock beds. Where landscape contractors really save the owner from back breaking labor and extra cost is when walkways, retaining walls and water features are installed. What can easily take a home owner months to create, a landscaper can accomplish in just a week.
Saving time - and money - is something that we all like, right?  The best way to do so is to bring in an expert who can give you the most bang for your buck. To save a lot money, we sometimes have to spend a little for the right expertise.

A crevice garden is a wonderful idea, especially when you add in the sundial shown here.

A water garden is another popular idea, especially in more urban settings where there isn't a lot of room to dig into the soil and build up a larger garden.

5 Tips for Landscaping on the Cheap

Looking to add to your landscape without spending a lot of dough? We've compiled a list of five ideas you can use to fill out your landscaping project while keeping more money in your wallet. Read through, and if you have some tips of your own, feel free to share them!

Grow potatoes in an old tire. Tires are great to use for gardening, especially when you use them to grow potatoes. Just fill the bottom rim with compost, toss your seed potatoes in, and then add more compost until the tire is full.

Become a stone collector. Sure, you can buy stones for landscaping, but why do that when you can pick them up off the ground for free? Keep an eye out for neat-looking stones and, when you come across them, pick them up and add them to your collection. You'll eventually have enough to use for your landscaping project.

Feed the birds. A bird feeder is a relatively inexpensive item to build or purchase, and the landscaping return on investment is well worth it. Your yard will soon be hosting all sorts of birds who stop by for a quick bite to eat.

Add a bench. It's great to have a place to sit outdoors, and benches can usually be found pretty cheap on sites like craigslist, at thrift stores, or at yard sales. Get hunting!

Keep your eyes peeled for freebies. For instance, demolition sites are great places to find brick, cinder blocks, and more.

If you're looking to get started on a professional landscaping project, consider giving Environmental Design a shout! We can be reached online, or at (952) 997-6533.

Awesome Retaining Wall Ideas

A retaining wall is a wall that is meant to hold back earth from moving forward or downward. In the context of landscape design, retaining walls are used to create a layered effect -- giant "steps" from the ground level to the next level of earth. A retaining wall can be made of stone, cement, wood, or another type of material.

We've looked around and collected photos of retaining walls that we feel are really well done. We hope that these retaining walls will inspire some ideas in your own head. When you're ready to have your retaining wall installed on your property, be sure to give Environmental Design a call.

Boulderscapes

Boulderscape. You may have heard the term, but not understand what it means.

Boulderscaping is a landscaping process that involves accent your existing outdoor space with natural stone elements, like boulders and other rocks. This type of landscaping is great for hillsides, and can help in retaining the hillside and prevent mulch from sliding downhill.

Minnesota is home to many hillsides, and these can be accentuated and given attention to with a great boulderscape. If you're interested in learning more about bolderscapes and/or boulderscaping, visit our website at www.EnvironmentalDesignLandscape.com.
